Am I eligible?

Current Health Sciences Division Faculty, students and staff are eligible to request articles and books that are not in the Health Sciences Library collection.

LUHS Clinical Faculty, Residents and Fellows are eligible to request articles and books that are not in the Health Sciences Library collection.

SSOM and MNSON graduate nursing alumni may obtain articles from the Health Sciences Library through Loansome Doc.

Healthcare professionals who do not have access to a medical library may obtain articles through Loansome Doc.

How much does it cost?

The Health Sciences library covers the cost for processing all requests, excluding copyright fees, for the Health Sciences Division.

Alumni are charged $5.00 per request.

Healthcare professionals not affiliated with Loyola University Chicago are charged $15.00 per request.

Publishers impose copyright fees once the library has obtained 5 articles from a journal the library does not license. The fee varies from $40-$95. We will notify you of the copyright fee before processing your request.

Requesting Articles or Books

All article and book requests are managed online.

You will need to create an account the first time you login.

Select the appropriate item type from the Request Forms menu.

Please check Find a Journal or the Library Catalog to make sure the library does not own the item in either electronic or print format.

How do I check on the status of my request?

Login to your account to check on the status of any request.

Statuses include:
Awaiting Request Processing: your request has been received
Request Sent: Your request has been sent to libraries that own the item.
Delivered to the Web: a pdf of the item you requested is available in your account.

How long will it take?

Most articles arrive within 24 hours and books generally arrive within 7-10 days, as they are sent via US Mail.

How do I know when the request has been filled?

When items arrive, you will be notified by email.

Articles are sent electronically and can be viewed from your account by clicking on “Electronically Received Articles” under “View Requests.”

Books are available for pickup at the Library Service Desk.

Returning books borrowed from another library.

Please return all books by the due date so that we can return the book to the lending library by our due date.
